Child Abuse

Unlike the other forms of abuse, I have very little personal experience with child abuse to the depths that this post will cover. I do feel it is important to note that a parent not able to give the basics and denying them are not the same one is abuse one is poverty (or mental health issues).

Child abuse can come in many forms just like intimate partner violence. However, the most common form of abuse is neglect. There are two types of neglect emotional and physical neglect. Emotional neglect is when a caretaker of a child is unemotional, unsupportive, not expressing feelings, not giving compliments, not respecting the feelings and opinions of the child. Physical neglect is not providing the things needed for the child to thrive, such as care, food, shelter, clothing, education, and other such things. Physical neglect is often the most reported next to physical abuse. Child are not like abuts often time (most notable for Emotional neglect) the signs of abuse can be overlooked. With that said neglect of both kind is often present in homes of psychical, sexual, and emotional abuse. Lastly one of the single largest predictors of child abuse is intimate partner violence.
